"So this is the sanctuary they spoke of, Asylum 39?"
Gabriel stood there gazing up at the ominous cube of ebony that pierced the sky. The sky was a dull grey with a dreary haze of mist hanging over the edges of the structure hiding its full height from view.
The guards escorting Gabriel shivered as a gust of wind whipped past, ruffling the bandages he had adorned himself with upon discovering the nature of his condition.
Making their way through the gates, Gabriel couldn't help but feel a wave of relief as he stepped through the stone maw into his new 'home'.
Gabriel thought to himself as he was lead through the front doors for processing:
"At least here, I can be monitored and fed so that I might not present a threat to others..."
The guard at the processing office looked at Gabriel with a mixture of boredom and annoyance:
"State your name."
"Gabriel Arkalius Zerafym, sir"
"It says here you're a Genos."
"I suppose you could say that, I honestly only recently discovered my condition and decided it best to resign myself into the care of the Asylum for safety of others, sir."
"I guess that would explain the lack of a Hunter escorting ye. Anyway, all new prisoners need to be assessed for their threat level before they can be given a proper prisoner number. So follow the guards to the laboratories and await instructions from the scientists there."
"Thank you, sir"
Gabriel bows slightly as he says this. The guard at the office grunts in acknowledgement before buzzing them through the front security doors.
As they guards escorted Gabriel down the hall, he noticed the presence of others peering out of their cells, their gazes set upon him as he made his way past.
He could not decipher the meaning behind their eyes but reflexively he tightened the bandages he wore in a futile attempt to hide his self-consciousness as well as clung slightly more tightly to the file he was carrying.
"We're here. The scientists will be overseeing the remainder of your stay here until we've been given new orders. So stay out of trouble and things should go along smoothly."
"Thanks and I hope I haven't been an inconvenience for you both."
Both the guards looked at each other blankly in disbelief before closing the door behind Gabriel. Just as the door had shut, Gabriel was greeted by an elderly man who could've been as old as 60 and retired by this point. The creases in his face were indicative of his age, but strangely enough he wore a pervasive smile that made his eyes but mere slits.
"Ah! You must be the new prisoner!"
"Um, yes sir. I am Gabriel. I was sent here for an inspection to assess my threat level."
Gabriel handed over the small file he had brought with him to the enthusiastically gray-haired man.
"So you are a Genos? And you describe your abilities as being 'Organic Subsumation and Domination'?"
Gabriel nodded in response.
"It says here you attempted suicide by decapitating yourself?"
"I didn't know what else to do... At the time I was overwhelmed and horrified at the revelation that my blood parents, blood siblings, foster families, and lastly my roommate were all... killed by me... By what I am."
"Just how much do you know about your abilities?"
"Not as much as I'd like to, sir. But it is definitely apparent that they act out when I am in a state of hunger, most actively during the night when I am unconscious."
"Well, disposition-wise you aren't quite as difficult to handle as some of our other prisoners, some of which have had to be inspected in chains or worse. However, the nature of your abilities may require further observation to find the most effective containment accommodations to keep your fellow prisoners and our guards safe. I believe you'd qualify for a rank of 3. Thus your prisoner number shall be henceforth: G321."
"G321..."
"Indeed. Until we know the full extent of what kind of restrictive measures are needed for your containment you shall be held in our solitary confinement cells until further notice."
"Understood."
The scientist buzzed back for the guards to escort Gabriel to his cell. Just before Gabriel departed bowed to to the scientist and said:
"Thank you."
Puzzled, the scientist scratched his head in disbelief as Gabriel was lead away.
"G321... G321... G321..."
Gabriel murmured this as he was lead to his cell. As the doors closed and finally locked shut, a fleeting thought struck Gabriel:
"Though others may be a prisoner, I am not. For I am here by choice... This is my home now... My dark sanctuary..."
