Marisa pondered a moment on how to explain the concept of money to Fox...finally she got an idea as she set him down once more, and sat next to him. She pulled out one of her pistols and placed it on the ground between them, making extra sure to be as non-threatening as possible...specifically by holding it by the barrel, not the trigger. She also pulled out her ID card.
"All right...I'll try to explain it as best I can. Let's play pretend for a moment here, and pretend you're a weapons dealer of sorts...I want to get a new gun, right? Now...you offer me this gun."
She motioned to the gun sitting on the floor between them before continuing.
"However...I can't have it for free, right? I have to give you something in return...so I then offer you my ID badge in exchange for it."
At this moment, she would switch the two items...once again, picking the gun up by the barrel so as to be the least threatening as possible. She really didn't want to spook Fox.
"What just happened with this transaction is called a barter...trading one thing for another. However...money has not come into play yet..."
She then went ahead and switched the two back again, putting her ID badge away and....what to use in representation for money? She didn't actually have any on her...ah well, she supposed she could use a verbal example.
"Now...instead of trading my ID for the gun...the prospect of money is that I can instead trade it for a common currency that everyone has access to. You know what coins are, right? That's a form of money...and if I have enough, I can buy the gun from you. What's better about the money system is that, no matter what job you have...you earn money from doing it. This money can then be used to buy whatever you want, such as clothes, food, or books, so long as you have enough money for the purchase....in my case, every bit of that money goes towards paying off what I owe this company. Does that help you understand a bit better?"
She waited to see how Fox reacted to all this before placing her pistol back in its holster. She hoped she did a good enough job in explaining....
